Omicron and ‘Dry January’: Tips on How to Succeed During the Surge

January is Alcohol Awareness Month and Dry January. This month, we’re challenging our customers to embark on a 30-day journey that will hopefully lead them to a healthier lifestyle.

Is this just another New Year’s Resolution? Not exactly.

Dry January is an awareness campaign focused on alcohol consumption, its effects on health and well-being, and the potential for positive change through giving up alcohol (at least temporarily). Participants abstain from drinking for 31 days; many make it beyond the month by continuing to avoid alcohol in the following months as well. So why would someone decide not to drink alcohol for one month?

Is it all about health?

While there are some great reasons – like saving money or reducing calories – it’s also about not drinking. Dry January is all about the choice, and it encourages people to think about their relationship with alcohol and what they can do differently when it comes to drinking to feel better.

As with all things in life, moderation is key. But for some people, there’s a real urge to change their daily drinking habits and Dry January provides the perfect opportunity to do so. People struggle for many different reasons.

Whether it be weight gain, financial concerns, or just general dissatisfaction with current lifestyle choices – going alcohol-free can offer a new lease on life and help kick-start a healthier you.

So what does this have to do with health and fitness?

Well, apart from the obvious benefits of increased water consumption (water flushes out toxins), better sleep patterns, more lean muscle mass from working out because of improved recovery times, etc.

adding an exercise regime to your weekly schedule will make you feel great! Working out increases serotonin levels in the brain and serotonin is a neurotransmitter that makes you feel happy, relaxed, and balanced.

During Dry January, our customers often find themselves socializing with family and friends (especially during meal times) without alcohol. Our advice would be to seek out a company that will satisfy your need for social interaction whilst enjoying the delicious food that the festive season brings!

Our tips on how to succeed during dry January:

Get talking – speaking with friends about why you’re embarking on this journey can help hold you accountable for your own decision to continue abstaining from alcohol beyond January. Post your experiences online if possible so others who are supporting you through their non-drinking journeys can offer positive encouragement.

If you’re thinking of hosting a New Year’s Eve party, consider inviting like-minded friends who will be abstaining from alcohol. The company of others without alcohol will make for a great evening and may even encourage you to continue leading this healthier lifestyle beyond next week.
